Announcement of the Burmese students on donation for the Burmese Tsunami victims in Thailand

Date. 31.1.2005

We, Burmese students, study at various universities in Thailand, have donated second times to the Burmese Tsunami victims in Thailand by our own efforts.

First of all, overcoming many difficulties, we could donate to the needs of the victims properly. With the help and supports from our friends who are foreign students, many burmses workers from Bangkok, families from oversea countries especially from Singapore and United State of America, teachers and their families from both inside Burma and Thailand, we have implemented our program to meet the needs of the victims. Therefore, we thank to the all the contributors so much for their sympathy and mercy to the Burmese Tsunami victims.

Our ultimate aim for donation is that " We, students, will never forget the feeling or suffering of the people of Burma whenever they face terrible catastrophe or other serious situation." We also recognize that "While we are studying peacefully in Thailand, many of our people have to strike for their survival in many places where are far away from homeland without opportunity to study."

We are thankful to the people who provided part of the travel expense to the second program implementation. Although we intended to implement just by our own, we were not able to afford to it. Therefore, we requested some people to contribute partly for our travel expense. Totally we needed to use about 20,000 bahts for two trips. (Travel expense covers the fee for the volunteers to travel and the cost for the transportation of clothes and other things... )

We visited to the affected areas, Tamboon Hartsaikhow, Tamboon Kumphanson, soksamrang district, and Ranong Province. Our contributions are as follows:

(1) We donated 10,000 Baths to two families for the alms and materials

for two remembrance ceremony that is intended for their loved ones

who lost in the Catastrophe.

(2) We donated 3,000 Bahts for two people who have been broken their

hands in the terrible Tsunami.

(3) We donated cash for the people who survive fortunately from

catastrophe. (One person is provided for 300 Baht, totally 110 people,

33,000 baht). (Bags and envelopes are donated by the volunteers).

(4) We donated 2,000 Bahts to Sayardaw Ukumara who is helping

communities to be resettled and delivering speech for

commemorations of the death. Sayardaw U Kumara has been

working for the Burmese worker community since the Tsunami

disaster.

(6) We donated totally about 1,000 clothes to the children, women and

men. Moreover, 1 package of rice, food, slipper and shoes, some

amount of medicine and miscellaneous things.

We, five students from three universities traveled to Tamboon Kumphanson, with 50,000 Bahts, 1000 clothes, and other things in the evening of January 29th and returned back to Bangkok in the morning of January 31th. During that period, we collected news, comforted victims, shared the willingness of our donors, and recorded the evidences of the crucial Tsunami Impacts.

Being students, we also need to study on time, thus, if our program announcement and financial report can not come out on time, we hope all of our donors will understand upon us, but we will try to announce our financial report within 2 days.

We still receive donations from some people and also we are getting more news on the victims who do not get any assistance yet. Therefore, we will help the some contributors if they want to donate to the real victims. Also we would like to request all contributors that if you all want to donate, please send confirm email to us before and after accurate money transferring, because we will try to work our program until 15th February, 2005. Later we can only help to give information or suggestion to reach your donation to the victims.

Our donation account will be opened for the donation till the 15th February, 2005. Therefore, all donors can still donate to the program's Bank account until 15th of February.

Willingly, students would like to make blood donation, although they can not go to effected area and can not donate directly to the victims. We will try to manage blood donation in any Bangkok government hospital by aiming for the all victims, as soon as possible.

Also we, students, strongly would like to suggest the contributors and people that some victims do not get any assistances yet, so if you know any related news of the Burmese Tsunami victims, please inform and send information to the volunteer groups, NGOs, even our group. We will try to help any kind of possibilities for them.

We would like to thank deeply you all for donation and sympathy for the victims without any personal benefit and expectation.

Subject: an update

Dear all,
Some times last week, got an email from an AIT student mentioning that some of the students are planning to go to Phangnga, but I was out of Thailand and was not able to talk to them. I called the student today, he said, a group lead by a Myanmar student who is studying in Thamasert university already went to Phangnga, and they got a chance to really met with the Myanmar victims. There is also a Myanmar Monastery there helping the victims. I will be calling to the student from Thamasert tomorrow and hopefully and wishfully, I will be getting the contacts , how to go there. I will be taking a flight to Phuket on this Friday and will provide u all the status.
Thanks- thein htike oo
